Who doesn't love to eat Ketchup? When you think about eating ketchup, the first thing that comes to your mind is a ketchup jar that you can buy from any supermarket.
Homemade ketchup is one of my favorite old handmade recipes that is done without adding any preservatives. When you are preparing your yearly Mouneh, you should take into consideration preparing homemade ketchup that can be preserved in the refrigerator for 9 month. Here are the ingredients:
- 10 Kg of Tomatoes
- 4 Bay Leaves
- 3 Whole Cinnamon Sticks
- 6 Hail Seeds
- 2 Onions
- 2 Big Cups of Vinegar
- 2 Big Cups of Sugar
- 1/2 Cup of Salt
Here are the steps:
- Wash the tomatoes, cut them into quarters and put it in a saucepan.
- Cut the Onions into small pieces and
place them above the tomatoes.
- Add the bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, the hail seeds to the saucepan.
- Put the pot on medium heat and leave it on fire for 30 minutes.
- Leave the mixture for 3 hours to cool
down.
- Put the mixture in the blender for one minute and then filter the mixture over a pot.
- Add the vinegar, pepper, sugar and salt.
- Put it on a quiet fire and move the mixture.
- When the mixture becomes thick,
remove the pot from the fire.
- Install the ketchup in dry glass bottles.
- Cover the ketchup bottles tightly and place them in the refrigerator.
Enjoy preparing this Lebanese homemade ketchup. As Teta once said " Happiness is Homemade".
